Travis wetlands

On Rapare 22 here-turi-koka, the tuakand from Ata hapara went via van to travis wetlands were met by Pete C.C.C environmental educator.

We learnt about bugs, birds and the history of travis wetlands, about 200 hundred years ago the hole of christchurch was wetlands and the maori would only came here once or twice a year to get resources like fish and birds. There is only 3% percent of wetlands left in christchurch.

Then we walked to this ming lake, Pete talked about the different bugs in the water like danslieflys, leeches, backswimmer, and heaps more.
Then he showed how us the thing it was sort of like a big spoon and how to catch back and forth on it side  me, connor and henare caught 8 backswimmers, a mayfly nymph and like 300 water fleas.

Then when we were at the bird look out it was dark but when we opened light streamed in it was amazing it felt so nice on my skin I saw some swans in the water.

We thank pete then we went back to school it was a fun trip I learnt  a lot about the wet land.
